Competition
No one likes to be beat out by a competing firm or designer. No designer I know enjoys being underbid or outclassed.

Features - Ethics
I've had my fill of companies that exist by exploiting the innocent. I'm tired of those who would hide behind false pretences to further their own gains at the expense of others. I yearn for those who can step up and plainly ask for what they want.

Windows 2000 - The" Graphics OS"
Windows 2000 is as easy to setup and configure as Windows 98 but none of the instability. In fact, Windows 2000 does a better job of setting up new hardware than any previous version of Windows.

Features - Lions, Tigers and Thieves - Oh My!
As you may or may not know there are ways to protect your work. Adobe's Photoshop has Digimarc, which brands your work with your name, website, date of creation and other pertinent info so that no matter where your image may inadvertently travel it tak...

Paper or Paperless?
About the only time I am away from my PC is to read a book, magazine or newspaper. I do not watch TV as it became disenchanting years ago.

Do you have time? NO!
Allen's note: This very ironic. I read this today after writing this weeks article.

Is it Flash or is it Just Me?
Maybe I am just clueless, but I have a hard time seeing the benefits of using Flash (or related technologies) on a website. Let me elaborate a bit on that.

Speed or Quality? Just how do I choose?
When buying hardware for your PC or Macintosh what drives you to purchase an item? Is it speed, quality, compatibility, previous satisfaction, or a combination of all of them? Do You Refer Clients?
At this point personal alarm bells started going off. I had no idea what the project was about nor would I unless I cleared my schedule and met with him in person.

Are you a Survivor?
The reason that I see parallels with these two shows and our profession is that being a designer is much like competing for cash prizes in an intense environment. Our co-workers, partners, associates, and clients all hold the potential to be obstacles ...

What is the Color of the Wind?
When enough time has elapsed (even if it is a rush job) return and take serious notice of the first elements that strike you about your work. Whatever they may be, keep them and remove all else.

The Death of Print... I Think Not!
I would much rather be the man who found the Rosetta stone in the sands of Egypt than the person who has it on disk. People need print, people need to flip pages, feel texture.

Gettin' Paid
When I was a child in school I would commonly hear from my teachers that "doodling" in my notebooks was not going to get me anywhere in life but I'd scribble on unperturbed. And now I have the pleasure of doodling for a living! (I'm thumbing my nose as...
