| Flash ActionScript f/x & Design is a great how to for Flash ActionScripting. It comes with a CD that includes the projects from the book. The book starts out explaining programming in general with topics including: - Variables
- Data Types
- Strings
- Expressions
- Boolean Expressions
- Numbers
- Objects
- Movie Clips
Once you get the idea the book moves on to explaining how to incorporate the above topics into a Flash movie. It doesn't just tell you to put it there, it tells you where to put it. There is a large chapter on Conditionals and Operators and another on Loops. It goes on to talk about Properties and Functions, duplicating movie clips, addressing variables and objects on different levels and much more. Flash ActionScript f/x & Design is easy to follow and each chapter has screen shots and projects so that you can learn as you read through the book. Some very valuable learning goes on in the last half of the book where discussion and exercises cover Collision Detection, Drag and Drop, Global Properties, User defined functions and more. This book is a must have for beginning ActionScripters and there is no reason that by the time you get to the end of the book that you won't have a good understanding of ActionScripting and just what you can do with it. If you have never used Flash before then you will really need to learn Flash before tackling this book. It does assume you have the basic skills to create a simple Flash movie. You will also need to know how to get around in Flash. So, as the author states, "This book is not for the novice who is learning Flash for the first time. It is intended for Flash 3 and Flash 4 users who are transitioning to Flash 5 and want to learn ActionScript." The book was instructional and easy to follow.
