| Allen Harkleroad June 15, 2001 A great application just got better. CD Everywhere 2.0 is one of the best tools I have used in years to aid in the production of CD creation. Imagine the ability to create hybrid CD images that can be read on Windows. Macintosh, UNIX. You simply drag and drop the files you wish to include in a CD image, and then decide if you want to share files or only show certain files for certain platforms. The interface has tabs for each platform type. You just simply go to each tab and select which files should show and which should not. This application really makes building custom CD images production a no brainer. Try it out and you will agree. I think one of the best features for Windows users is that fact you can build a complete Macintosh CD image and burn it with CDR software without having a Macintosh computer. CD everywhere also supports autostart on Macintosh and autorun on Windows, no complicated setup, just check a box. Features in a nutshell (from the CD Everywhere website): ISO9660, Rock Ridge, Joliet, and HFS on a single CD. Each directory or file can be shared or only for a specific platform. Create all file systems on the fly from Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT, Unix, or Macintosh.
Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT Long filenames. Deep directories. Unicode filenames. AutoRun.
Unix Long filenames. Deep directories. Unicode filenames (using UTF8). Preserve permissions. Preserve symbolic links and avoid duplicated files. Block and character special files.
Macintosh Create HFS volume without a Macintosh or Macintosh hard drive. Full desktop database support. Allows you to install applications on the CD. MacBinary and BinHex files on-the-fly. Preserve resource fork. Data fork is available to all platforms. Preserve file type and creator attributes. Download a MacBinary (*.bin) or BinHex (*.hqx) file from a web site and add it to the image, it's that simple. QuickTime AutoStart. Windows NT Services for Macintosh support. Apple-Unix Filesystem (A/UX) support. Assign file type and creator attributes based on filename extension and/or file content (for files other than MacBinary, BinHex, SFM, or A/UX).
FTP Looks like another directory on your desktop, drag and drop as easily as from your hard drive. Recoverable transfers. Unix permissions, symbolic links, user/group id, block and character special files preserved. Passive mode, automatically used for users behind a firewall. Our Opinion If you need to create cross platform CD ROM's then CD Everywhere is the "must" have application, it does what no other product can do and it is also so easy to use. You can't beat a combination like that! We love, we recommend it and we use it! It is indispensable. System Requirements - Available Java Runtime Environment 1.1
