| Brad Halstead September 1, 2001 Having just finished reading the book cover to cover and following the examples inside, I must say that this is a must have with some cautions. It's a must have because...
It goes through many of the different Extension Types available for Macromedia Dreamweaver and Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev version 4.X The book provides many different examples as well as projects to accomplish at the end of each section, and if you download the zipped chapters or full-pack from their support site then you have the projects already completed. Troubleshooting techniques are discussed in detail with example methods and developer extension tricks of the trade are explained. Creation of the extension installation file (MXP and MXI) are gone through step by step along with providing core text level and extension based creation of the MXI file(s). This followed by a screen by screen description of submitting your newly created extension to the Macromedia Exchange for addition to the database.
The cautions I have to express to the people interested in extension building isn't stressed enough in this book I feel... You must have a good base of JavaScript knowledge to be creating complex extensions such as the ones that Tom, Ray and Massimo create for the public. Although this can come with time, this book, by no means, is a step by step guide to making extensions.
Lastly, the book has a very valuable resource section in the back that should be used in your everyday Dreamweaver experience and not just for extension development.
I rate this book as a 5 out of 5 for content, detail and presentation. | Authors: | Tom Muck & Ray West | | Publisher: | Osborne | | ISBN | 0072191562 | | Price: | $19.99 USD | | Number of Pages: | 219 | | Support Site: | http://basic-ultradev.com | | | Copyright 2000, Brad Halstead, All Rights Reserved |
