Blow up 1.0
AlienSkin Software
Review by Father Jacob Myers
Image resizing has become a "big deal." So often we find images on the internet that we want to print out and give to a friend or use in a magazine or brochure. The problem often is that the image is quite small and when it is blown up even a little it looks like the picture below of Michael Vick breaking a tackle...when you blow them up they become pixilated and look like a million little squares...giving a "computer" feeling to the image....

But look at the difference in that little tiny image above on the left when it is resized in AlienSkin's new Blow Up 1.0. Both pictures below are fairly passable enlargements of Michael Vick doing the near impossible, breaking the Pittsburg Steelers Troy Polamulu's tackle.

Blowup is a very simple to use plug in that installs in Photoshop and allows you to enlarge a photo without loosing too much of the look of the original. Below you can see a small icon of St. Aidan, an Irish saint that I would like to print out in a much larger size. When I access the Blow Up Plugin, I can either change the size to what I want to print it out in, or I can enlarge the resolution. A nice feature of this program is that not only can I resize the picture, but I can get rid of the halo effect that often comes when you enlarge prints by increasing the sharpening of the print and also adding a little Grain as well.

Both of the prints below are enlargements of the print above...the one on the top is without any sharpening or added grain...The one on the bottom has both.

There are a number of image resizing programs on the market today. Below you can see how the features and the price of Blow Up make it a very good buy for the money.
