ArtRage Deluxe 2.5 by SmithMicro

July,2008

I received ArtRage Deluxe 2.5 by SmithMicro via download with an activation key via email.  I had no installation or activation problems.

ArtRage Deluxe contains several key features that make this a desirable program to have from the beginner to experienced artist. ArtRage Deluxe allows for import and export of PSD files with layers and blend modes in Photoshop. ArtRage supports multi-monitor systems and tablets. It makes full use of tablet's pressure and tilt abilities. You can load your own images for tracing or as a reference guide. It also provides the ability to crop, scale, move and resize any layer. There are several choices for the grain of the canvas desired. One of the features that I think that children would love is the effects you can create with the glitter tool and metallic paints.

Even though the Palette was easy to work around I wasn't exactly sure where or how to begin. I found the tutorials provided with ArtRage to be a great help. They take you step by step to create your first work of art and teach you how to use the tools provided.

This is a rose I painted with my mouse from one of the tutorials. For not being a painter of any caliber, of course I was thrilled with my first creation.

Once I was more comfortable with the program I decided to try a portrait. Again bearing in mind I have little to no painting skills this is what I came up with. This was also done with a mouse not a tablet.

Here is a screenshot of of what the palette looks like including the reference picture.

Artists' tools include oil brush, palette knife, airbrush, paint roller, paint tubes, pencil, eraser, chalk, felt pen and crayon.

Here is a quick whimsical example of the glitters available and then I exported to Photoshop to add text.

My final painting with ArtRage Deluxe was done with a tablet.

I was quite pleased with this inovative little program. I am no painter and this made it fun to try. This program is fitting for both children and adults. I highly recommend this for beginners looking to experiment with digital painting. I also imagine even the professional artist/painter would have fun with the ease of use and realistic tools ArtRage Deluxe offers.
