Thumbs Plus 4.1 "The Upgrade"
Fr. Jacob Myers
May 1, 2000
THUMBS PLUS is, in my estimation, the best graphics thumbnail viewer
for viewing pictures and graphics. I reviewed the program last year and
will not go over the basics, which remain the same in this excellent
program which I still use almost every day.
You can still find, view and edit graphics. What may not be known about Thumbs Plus 4+ is that you can now view
movies, sounds, true type fonts and all of the images that you have on
your computer. The way the program systematizes graphics, allows for slide show viewing, individual editing
- including cropping as
well as tons of other features making the program second to none. This
says a lot seeing
there are quite a few on the market now. Most of
the people that I have introduced to Thumbs Plus have found it to be one of the
better programs they own.

Here is a list of "just" the new features in 4.1. I have
included all of them to show you the improvements made on an already
excellent program.
- Direct show (active movie) is now used for all movies and sounds.
- Added movie thumbnail and viewing options (Options|File Loading|Movies & Sounds).
- Preview window available (you can switch between Tasks and Preview)
- Hairline (crosshair) cursor option.
- Many new status bar options in View Window.
- Wonderful new color picker used throughout
ThumbsPlus.
- Color replacement in single and batch mode
(Image|Adjust).
- Quick convert menu for converting multiple files
(Image|Convert to).
- Quick (and non-lossy for JPEG files) turns (90, 180, 270) and mirrors.
- Additional table spacing, padding and color options in Web Wizard.
- Page link index support (1 2 3 4 5) in the Web Wizard.
- Many new templates for the Web Page Wizard
- View window image resampling capability (for displaying images larger than the window).
- Additional options for folder display and volume matching (Options|Preferences|Disks & Folders).
- Improved memory management using private page files for large images.
- Context sensitive help for dialog items.
- ThumbsPlus will now print all pages of multi-image TIFF, DCX and CEX files.
- Improvements and fixes to batch processing, including setting file date/time.
- OLE support for some programs that do not implement it properly, such as Adobe Illustrator.
- Support for SUBST drives on NT, 98 and 2000.
- Support for IPTC information in SCC JPEG files.
- Support for viewing EXIF information from digicam files.
- Overall improvements in viewing file information (from Properties).
- Support for newest Kodak & Nikon DCS professional digital cameras.
