Creating Area Lights - discreet 3ds max Tutorial

Select the omni light icon.

Turn Cast Shadows on.

Shift and drag to make a copy - select Instance and set Number of Copies to 10. Press OK. Move and shift lights into the correct place.

Adjust the Multiplier down to approximately .09.

Change Shadow Map Size to 100.

Set the blur to 10 to soften the hard edges.

Duplicate the lights.

Due to the brightness of the combined lights, at this point reduce the Multiplier again to create a more realistic atmosphere.

Here is the finished result. To make the original lights, apply a Self-Illumination color.
