Begin by selecting the Sphere Object.

Set the Radius to 2.

Select the Cylinder Object.

Click on AutoGrid.

Center the Cylinder Object directly over the center of the sphere and click. Drag upward to about a height of .555.

Select the Torus Object.

In the front view port drag out the Torus Object to a size that fits the top of the ornament.

Check the Slice On option and specify Slice To an appropriate size for your ornament.

Use Select and Rotate to rotate the half circle into the right position. Drag on the outside circle.

If you find the piece too large, use the Select and Uniform Scale button to resize the piece. Drag around the two top pieces and move down slightly.

With the piece at the top selected, choose Compound Objects.

Select Connect.

Click on Pick Operand and click on the cylinder.

Click on the Select and Link button. Drag from the pieces above to the sphere.

Open the Material Editor. Select Metal

With the top pieces selected, choose Mtl Library and find Reflection_Chromic (Standard).

Press Assign Material to Selection.

With the sphere selected and the Material Editor open, click on the next window to create a new material. Click on Standard and then on Mtl Library. Select blue glass (Standard).

Under Utilities click on the More button and select Assign Vertex Colors.

Click on Assign to Selected.

Hit the Quick Render button to view the ornament. If you check on the Mix vertex colors and Calculate Shadows with Shaded selected, you get a different look. If you select Diffuse with the previous two items checked, you get a third look.
