Flower Animation - Adobe After Effects Tutorial

Jacquelin Vanderwood

First import the files you will need. In this particular case I will use only two items, a flower and a disk.

To change the background color, select Composition>Background Color and choose the color you want.

Click on the flower with the Selection tool.

Drag down onto the Timeline.

Click on the flower layer to select it. Press Alt+P to apply a keyframe to Position. Pressing Alt+P or R (Rotation) or Alt+A (Anchor Point) will apply a keyframe no matter where you are in the timeline. It's always a good idea to check the timeline first. If you want to check what you do have checked in your layer, press U and the items you have animated will appear.C

Move the slider to 02s in the timeline.

Move the flower to a new position.

Moving the flower's position automatically at this point sets a new keyframe.

Move the flower at 2s intervals until you've made a complete animation. To view the animation, hit Home and the Spacebar.

Go back to the beginning. Hit Home and click inside the work area. Click Alt+R to set a keyframe for Rotation. Hit the End key and place a check mark. Hit the Home key. Specify 1 x 0.0. Press the spacebar to view the animation. Hit the U key several times to close everything.

Pull the disk down onto the timeline. Place it above the flower layer. Click the flower layer. Hit U several times to open the layers with the set keyframes. Hold Shift down and click all of the keyframe layers. Press Ctrl+C to copy.

Click on the disk layer. Press Ctrl+V to paste. Under Rotation change Rotation to -3 x -180. Press the spacebar to play the animation. Play the animation by moving slider. If You discover that the animation isn't what you want, increase the revolutions for the flower and for the disk. Make sure the disk is going in the opposite direction. Also, when you move the slider by hand and notice the disk moving out of line, move manually into place along the way. Save and play.
