Clock Hand Rotation - Adobe After Effects Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood April 15, 2004 | 1 | | Here are two ways to set up clock hand rotations. | | 2 | | The first lesson is the basic way. For the hour hand set a keyframe at the very beginning with the Rotation set to 0. Now hit the end key and set the Rotation to 1. | | 3 | | For the minute or blue hand, follow the same procedure but set the Rotation to 12. Hit the Spacebar to watch the hands rotate. | | 4 | | Here is the second method available. Follow the same procedure as above for the hour or red hand. Select the blue arrow layer and now pull the Pickwhip over to the red or hour hand. | | 5 | | Select the blue arrow layer. Open Animation and choose Add Expression. | | 6 | | You'll see the word rotation in the line and highlighted. | | 7 | | Change the expression to read this_comp.layer("red arrow").rotation*12. If you are running into expression problems, try renaming the layer. This expression tells you to follow the example of the red arrow layer but rotate the hand 12 times instead of one time. | | 8 | | Here is how that layer will look when an expression is resident in it. | | 9 | | This was a simple illustration of how easy it is to learn and use basic expressions. | Copyright 1998-2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
