If you have the newest version of AE, I understand that you can type directly into the program but if you're like me and are still using an older version, you can import text from Photoshop or Illustrator. I have set the text directly on a dark background for this lesson. It also happens to be the only layer I'll need. |

| 2 |
Make sure the text is selected. |

| 3 |
Open Render and select Vegas. |

| 4 |
Immediately you can see that the text has changed. The yellow you see is actually supposed to be lights but we can adjust them. |

| 5 |
Begin by making sure Image Contours is selected. |

| 6 |
Open Image Contours and for the Input Layer select the text layer. |

| 9 |
Render is set to All Contours. |

| 10 |
Under Selected Contour, make the selection in the box Fewer Segments. |

| 11 |
Under Segments, set Segments to 91 and leave Length alone. |

| 12 |
Open Rendering. Set Blend Mode to Transparent. |

| 13 |
Change the Color to white. |

| 14 |
Increase Width to 2.5. |

| 16 |
Use the settings below. |

| 17 |
Go back to Segments and click on the clock for Rotation. Set Rotation to 5 revolutions. |

| 18 |
Hit the Spacebar and watch the lights rotate around the transparent text. |

| 19 |
To make the sign more interesting, drop an original copy of the sign imported from Photoshop onto the lights we have animated. |

| 20 |
Set the layer mode to Silhouette Luma. |

| 21 |
You should now have transparent letters that appear to have some depth. This will not affect the Vegas lights. Test by pressing the spacebar. |
