Labeling layers is important to keeping your work easy and accessible to view quickly. Below we have a sample scene with five layers for this lesson.

The first thing you to do is select the layer. Now press Enter on the alphabet keyboard. Type in the new name and press Enter again.
To see the alternate names, click on the title on the column title or Source Name.


You can also see the alternate name by viewing the Info palette.

If you want to see the source name of the layer, make sure the Info palette is open then press Ctrl+Alt+E.
To change the color of the layer, select Edit and choose Label and select a color.
If you want to change a label color for a group, choose Edit and select Label>Select Label Group. Choose a new color. Notice how the color squares next to the label name also changes color.
