One of the new features in After Effects CS3 is the ability to animate text in 3D space and in this lesson I'll show how easy it is to do.
Begin by typing in a word or two.

Next I applied a 3D animation text effect called 3D Twist&Color Characters.

I then added a camera to the scene, the default one.

I used the camera tools to manipulate the position of the text.

The view was changed to that camera.

Here's the position I ended up with.

This is the standard animation effect that I applied originally.

Under Animator you'll see Add. Click on it.

Enable Per-character 3D should be checked for this procedure.

Then go back and select Position here.

You can make any changes you want to the numbers but this is what I did for this step.

To better show the effect I used the camera tools to rotate the text more and then scrubbed through the timeline about midway to show you this effect.

You can try this with any effect and get amazing results.
