Animation Using the New Vector Paint Effect - Adobe After Effects Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood | 1 | | Let's get started. I've opened up a new file 640 x 480. Go ahead and do the same. You can either create your own background or create a solid for this demonstration. Open up Vector Paint. (Tip: You can use Vector Paint on solid layers, existing images in a layer, and to create mattes.) You can paint and erase on any file without destroying your original file. You can paint in a Comp window but not in a Layer window. | | 2 | | When you open up Vector Paint you'll immediately notice that a set of tool icons appear. As long as Vector Paint is selected you will continue to see these. If you click off they will go away. If you're using this program, I'm sure you're fairly familiar with what the tool icons represent so I won't go into too much detail. Each item is clickable including the color square. | | 3 | | Click the Paintbrush tool. | | 4 | | To enlarge or reduce the size of the paintbrush, hold the Alt key down and drag. | | 5 | | To feather the paintbrush stroke, again hold the Alt key down but this time hold the mouse key down and let go of the Alt key. You'll notice the shape on screen changes. Continue holding the mouse key down and drag back and forth to select the amount of feathering. | | 6 | | Below we see the Vector Paint rollout menu. The Brush Settings are fairly self-explanatory. If you have a Stylus, great. Use it. Keep Stylus selected even if you don't have one. | | 7 | | Click on the triangle to open up the Vector Paint options menu and take a look. | | 8 | | Go ahead and select Shift-Paint Records>To Sequential Frames. | | 9 | | Set up the information as you see it below. | | 10 | | With the Paintbrush selected, jump two keyframes (Control+right arrow). Select a color for the brush. Adjust the brush size and feathering and draw a stroke. Jump two or more keyframes and do the same. Continue until you are finished. I've created a simple animation to help you learn Vector Paint. You can choose not to use the Wiggler which will keep your lines the way you've drawn them. I'll cover this and other forms of Vector Paint in further tutorials. This tutorial is an intro to Vector Paint. Vector Paint is capable of much more. | Copyright 2001, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved |
