Rollover Buttons – Flash Tutorial

In this tutorial we will teach you how to make simple rollover buttons with links in Flash.

Open a new Flash Movie.
Size the work area from Modify/Movie choosing 60 width x 30 height.
 

Now, choose any color for the background, then you must create a movie clip by choosing Insert/New Symbol and click on: Button

The Up state of your button is: what will show in the move.
The Over state is:  what will show when someone mouses over the button.
The Down state is: what shows when someone clicks on the button and the Hit state is for the action properties of the button

Select the UP state of the button properties, choose the square drawing tool, and pick your color, (I had selected violet) and draw your button on the stage.

Click on the text tool and add text to your button, select it and bring it to the front

You can edit your text at the Properties Text Panel

As an example, I wrote HOME

Copy the UP button frame

Now paste it into the Over and Hit state:

 Now select the OVER state and change the color of your button (I had selected light blue):

Now when someone mouses over the button, the background will change from violet to light blue.

MAKING A LINK TO THE BUTTON:

Now go back to Scene one and select the button. Then go to the Actions Properties Panel to add the link to this button. After that select Actions/Movie Control/On

This panel will show up, choose PRESS.

Again go to the Actions Panel and select: Actions/Browser/Network/getURL

Now type the URL you want to add the link t
