Making Fun Stuff Without Really Trying - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial
Jacquelin Vanderwood | 1 | | Start by making two squares of different colors. Make sure they jut up next to one another. | | 2 | | Hit Ctrl+Y to view the outline. This will help you to see if the squares are aligned correctly. Hit Ctrl+Y again to change back to Preview. Select both squares. Press Shft+Alt and drag right. Make sure to get the boxes aligned exactly now before releasing. Upon releasing the mouse button press Ctrl+D several times. If you cannot see because you are too close, you can press Ctrl+- to zoom out without losing the capacity to continue pressing Ctrl+D to duplicate the squares. | | 3 | | Hit Ctrl+Y again to change back to Preview. Press Shft+Alt and drag vertically. | | 4 | | Use the Rotate tool by double clicking on it and set the Angle to 180. | | 5 | | Select all of the squares. Press Shft+Alt and drag vertically. Set in place directly below the current squares. Press Ctrl+D to duplicate. Do this several times. At this point if you want, you can select all the squares and press Shft+Alt and drag to duplicate. Set that to the side. | | 6 | | Select all the squares now. Not the duplicated ones. They are there in case you mess up, they're a backup for beginners. We have selected all the squares but we have not grouped them. Choose Warp Options and choose Arc Upper. Set Bend at 100 percent. We have an automatic design without much work. You can at this point press Ctrl+Z to undo or if you want to save this pattern, select the squares that were set aside. | | 7 | | Select Warp Options again and select Twist. Set to Horizontal, Bend -28, Distortion Horizontal -100 and Vertical 100. We come up with a totally new pattern. | Copyright 2003, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved |
