Drawing a Lizard - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood August 15, 2003 | 1 | | In drawing this lizard we will use the Pen tool. I'm going to start at the top of the head. Please follow along. | | 2 | | Continuing from the neckline, draw out the forearm and the toes. Make sure that the end of the toes are rounded and not pointed. | | 3 | | The belly of the lizard bulges out as seen below. | | 4 | | To begin the leg, hold the Alt key down and pull the right anchor point around to the direction that the leg will be drawn. Shorten the anchor point. | | 6 | | Draw in the tail and then connect it at the head. | | 7 | | Use the Direct Selection tool and select the right two anchor points. Open Path and choose Average. | | 8 | | Select Both under Average. | | 9 | | Reselect the lizard. Double-click on the Reflection tool and choose Vertical and then Copy. | | 10 | | Move the duplicate side into position. | | 11 | | Choose Add to shape area and then press Expand. | | 12 | | Your lizard should look something like this. | | 13 | | Use the Direct Selection tool to adjust the anchor points and narrow the tail. | | 14 | | Apply the Charcoal brushstroke to the lizard. | | 15 | | Fill the lizard with green. | | 16 | | With the same brush selected, add eyes and some back design. Group all. Under Warp Options apply an Arc. | | 17 | | Apply Expand Appearance and we're done. | | Copyright 2003, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
