Text Treatments - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood November 15, 2003 | 1 | | We'll be using text that is converted to outlines in this demonstration. I'm using Arial Black for this lesson. Type out the word Gold 2000 to start. | | 2 | | Make sure the Appearance palette is visible and that you have Characters highlighted. | | 3 | | Apply a Stroke of 4.5 pt to the text using rounded caps and joins. | | 4 | | Set the Foreground to transparent. | | 5 | | Duplicate the stroke layer in Appearance and change the stroke weight to 3 pt. Also change the color. | | 6 | | Do step 5 again and change the stroke weight to 1.5 pt and the color yellow. | | 7 | | Select the black layer. | | 8 | | With the black layer selected, open Transform Effect. Make sure Preview is checked. Set Horizontal to 96%. Change the anchor point to the left. Press OK. | | 9 | | Select the blue layer in the Appearance palette. Apply the Transform Effect again with the setting of 101% Horizontal. | | 10 | | With the yellow layer selected, click on the right anchor point. Scale to 95% Horizontal | | 11 | | Your letters should look like the ones below. | | 12 | | With the Compound Path selected in the Appearance palette, select Warp Options and apply Arc set to Horizontal and 9%. | | 13 | | Apply a no blur Drop Shadow set to X = 0 and Y = 4 pt. Set it to Color with a medium gray. Apply a custom gradient to the text by using the Gradient tool and holding the Shift key down and then applying the gradient. Now the text is complete. | Copyright 2003, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
