Oogly Bugs - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood January 1, 2004 | 1 | | Making oogly bugs are fun and easy. Start with a circle and oval shape and combine using the Pathfinder Add to Shape Area. | | 2 | | Create a gradient like the one below. Use the gradient tool to apply it vertically. | | 3 | | Make some lines like the ones below. | | 4 | | Apply Roughen to the lines. Flip the lines vertically. | | 5 | | With the lines selected make a pattern brush. Using the default specifications, check Approximate Path under Fit. | | 6 | | Apply the brush to the bug. | | 7 | | Create two straight black lines. Apply Zig Zag to the lines. Flip the one leg. | | 8 | | Use the Pen tool and add feet by clicking on the leg endpoints. | | 10 | | Apply Pucker & Bloat to the arms. | | 11 | | Reduce and flip the size of the previous brush we made. Make sure the stroke weight is 1. Make a new pattern brush just like the last one. | | 12 | | Create a white oval. Apply the brush we just made. Add a black circle inside of it. Add a smaller white circle to it. Group the eye. Duplicate it. | | 13 | | Create two antennae and apply the last brush. | | 14 | | Apply circles to the ends of the antennae and apply the last small brush. | | 15 | | Group the oogly bug. Duplicate and flip the bug. Hit Expand Appearance twice. Use the Pathfinder palette Add to Shape area button to combine. Create a rectangle and lighten the opacity of the layer through the Transparency palette. Apply the Zig Zag filter. | Copyright 2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
