Country Quilt Design Pattern Brush and Swatch - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

Jacquelin Vanderwood January 1, 2004   1 Start with four squares as shown below. 2 Copy the square (Control+C) and Paste in Front (Control+F). Use the Scale tool to reduce the size. Deselect any foreground color but choose a matching color for the square. Apply a dashed line and stipulate 3 pts for the stitching.   3 Copy to the next square and change the color. After copying down to the lower squares, rotate 180 degrees.   4 Use the Pen tool to create a leaf. Copy using the Scale tool. Change to a stroke and add dashed lines (no fill). Duplicate the leaf by rotating 180 degrees and move into place.   5 Make a circle and duplicate and reduce it. For the stroke set it's weight 6 pt. and it's dash to 3 pt.   6 Add a center black circle and group the flower.   7 Reduce the size of the flower and set it exactly in the center of the squares. If you need to see the center more clearly, press Control+Y for View. Group.   8 Copy the square. Move into place. Ungroup. Rotate the flower. Group   9 Select all and copy. Choose New Brush and select Pattern. Use the default settings.   10 Next, drag the squares onto the Swatches palette.   11 This was drawn with the Paintbrush tool and the Swatches version of the design used by clicking on it.   12 This is a square with the Pattern brush applied.   13 The circle was created with the foreground selected and clicking on the Swatches version of the design.     Copyright 2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved
