| Jacquelin Vanderwood June 15, 2004 | 1 | | Let's start in Illustrator. Using the Pen tool create petal like the one below. Apply a tri-color gradient as shown. | | 2 | | Select the Rotate tool and move the anchor point to the inner tip of the petal. | | 3 | | Hold the Alt key down and rotate. | | 4 | | Hit Control+D to duplicate as shown below approximately. | | 5 | | Hold the Control key down and reduce the size of this petal. | | 6 | | Use Alt and the Rotate tool to make the first duplicated petal at a turn. Press Control D to duplicate as shown below. | | 7 | | Follow the steps twice more. | | 8 | | Now create a leaf shape and apply a tri-color gradient to it. Press Shift+Control and [ to send to the back. | | 9 | | Move the anchor point to the center and rotate accordingly. | | 10 | | Again move the anchor point to the center and rotate pressing the Alt key to duplicate and then press Control+D to repeat the procedure. | | 11 | | Using the Alt key and rotating tool create a new leaf. Make this leaf larger. Make the gradient darker. Make copies and rotate into place. | | 12 | | Now select all the flower. Copy. Paste into Photoshop as pixels. | | 13 | | Select the flower and define it as a brush. | | 14 | | Open Brushes and set Shape Dynamics as shown below. | | 15 | | For Scattering use the specifications below. | | 16 | | Follow the Color Dynamics settings as well. | | 17 | | Select a bright pink color. | | 18 | | Now create a new larger composition and begin painting the background. Here I've created a sample of what this type of brush could be used for. | Copyright 2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
