Let's start by using the Pen tool and drawing the shape below.
Now select Revolve as shown below.
Once into the Revolve dialogue box, check the preview option.
Change the Offset to Right Edge.
Hit Enter to finish.
Use the Pen tool and draw a line like the one shown.
Draw two separate lines as shown in two colors.
Use the Blend tool to blend the lines together. Duplicate the leaf and reduce it in size, then rotate it using the Rotate tool and place it into position.
Use the same method as above to create the flower.
Use the Pen tool to create this shape.
Select Revolve again and choose Right Edge.
Move Perspective to the degree shown.
Move the box to adjust the level of the apple.
Create a stem and increase the stroke size.
Draw two leaves and then add an interior highlight with a lighter color.
Duplicate and reduce the base of the apple. Change it's color.
Rotate the apple as I have done using the Rotate tool.
Apply the Shell Lower Warp Options to the piece.
Hold the Shift key down and reduce in size.
Draw a straight line with the Pen tool and increase the weight of the stroke to 4. Set the Offset to 1 pt. and Surface to Diffuse Shading.
You can then reduce the width of the candle by pulling inward of the side of the bounding box. Create two shapes for the flame.

Using the Blend tool, select Specified Steps and use 3. Use the Blend tool to blend the two colors together.

Finally, create a small line like the one below. Use Revolve and Right-Edge. Adjust the size of the pieces for depth.

Finally, duplicate the grouped piece, uncheck Fill color in the toolbox, change the stroke color to a light color to duplicate a color in the piece and then change it's Transparency to 35%. Now we have a nice simple and clean looking Japanese style design.
