To demonstrate Live Paint, let's first start with a drawing that we've created in Illustrator.

Begin by selecting the drawing.
Find the Live Paint Bucket. Click on it.
Once you've clicked on the bucket, notice how the drawing changes.
With the bucket selected, choose a color and drop it into the areas.
Continue dropping in color into the areas until it is complete.
Looking closer I can see that an area on the nose was missed. Use the bucket to fill it with color.
Here is our completed artwork.
However, if we get rid of the strokes, we are left with the fill. In the older versions of Illustrator you would have actually had to draw the pieces shown below. Now it's as easy as using the Live Paint Bucket.
So now if we want to the Expand and Ungroup options and use the Direct Selection Tool, changing colors, adding gradients and more strokes or details are easy to do.
