For this demonstration, I'll use the Latin text shown below. We will learn how to generate styles for the characters and paragraphs. Styles are just formatting that you can revisit and apply to text and paragraphs at any given time.

To access Character Styles and Paragraph Styles, open Window and choose Type then make your selection.
Here are the dialogue boxes for Character and Paragraph Styles. As you can see, there is only Normal Character Style applied to the text and this is the default version.
To create a new style, click on the Create New Style button below then double click on the new style.
The Character Style Options dialogue box appears. Go ahead and give the style a unique name.
Go into each selection located on the left hand side and begin making the changes you want to create.
For Paragraph Styles you would follow the same procedure as above.
To facilitate Paragraph Styles you must first apply the default character style to the text otherwise you'll continue to see your unique character styles still applied. The first text below is done in Character Style while the second text is done in Paragraph Style.
