In this lesson we cover how to create a dresser using the Offset Path to create the beveled feature. Tutorial Includes project files.
I created all of the sections using Rectangle and Rounded Rectangle tool, then I created a perfect square and added lines using the Line tool where I converted the lines using Outline Stroke. I dropped that into the Swatches palette and then applied it to the dresser using two different versions of the same pattern.

With everything selected I then chose Offset Path.

On the Offset Path dialogue box I set Offset to 3 pt.

This is what I have so far.

Using the Line tool I set lines in each corner as shown below.

Select everything in the mirror minus the mirror and click on Pathfinder Divide button.

Do the same for the main dresser and drawers and notice how the lines get cut of at the corners. Occasionally you'll discover one doesn't get set in so do an undo and fix it.

Using the Direct Selection tool and more variations of the pattern, apply highlights and shadows to the piece and then delete the stroke.

Finally, you can use the same technique for the drawer knobs.
