In this tutorial you'll learn how to make an identity package consisting of letterhead, envelope, postcard, and business card. Tutorial Includes project files.
So the first thing we need to do is to create a logo for the package. Let's call this company McTurtle. For the letterhead we'll start with a 8 1/2 x 11 document. Next create a new spot color and name it rose rust.

The way you tell when a color is spot is by the little triangle with a dot in the middle, a spot if you will.

With the Brush tool in hand, select the 3 pt Round brush and draw two circles.

Fill with the rust rose color we created.

Let's create a new color.

Name it turtle green.

Using the same brush tool, change it's stroke weight to 4 points. Apply the color turtle green to the legs.

Create a new color called turtle blue.

Using the same brush changed to 3 points and the turtle blue, create a design on the back of the turtle. We're done with the logo. Make sure to group it.

Create a new color and name it green tea.

Create an 11" vertical rectangle and fill it with the green tea color. Make sure to have this on a separate layer and drop it to the bottom of the stack.

Select the logo and reduce it's size making sure to check Options.

Set the reduced logo 1/2 an inch down from the top in the green area.

Selecting a font for the name of the company, I increased the tracking to 200% and set it 1/4 of inch away from the rectangle.

I then added some interest to the lettering using the Brush tool. At this point create the name and address, etc., at the bottom of the page 1/4 inch from the right and bottom in a 10 pt. standard font. We are done with the letterhead. Save it denoting it as the letterhead. Don't close it. Now save it again with a name denoting it as a postcard

Go into Document Setup and change the Width, Height and Orientation.

For the postcard I used the same logo and increased it's size, reoriented the address to the left and made separate lines for the information, increased the size of the name and set it 1/2 inch from the bottom. I also used one of the new spot colors I created for the rectangle. Save the postcard and then resave it again as an envelope.

Make a document setup size of 9 1/2 by 4 1/2 for the envelope. Remember you're changing the existing document. Create a rectangle 3/4" wide and fill with one of the spot colors. Use the same size logo as was used in the letterhead. Place the title 1/2 inch fro the bottom and use the same size as is used in the letterhead. For the address, use only the address and no other information place 1/2 inch from the top. Save the envelope and save again one last time as the business card.

For the business card, make guides around the card 1/4. The printer will not print in that area. Use the same settings as are used in the letterhead here. So from here you will send these files to the printer in the format they want being assured that your colors are spot and knowing that you'll be charged for six spot colors plus black.
