In this tutorial we'll make an interesting background in blue that can be used for a variety of purposes. Tutorial Includes project files.
Let's begin by creating a rectangle and filling it with a gradient.

On a new layer, create some geometry with the Pen Tool and create a new gradient. Fill each individual item with the Gradient Tool in different directions.

On a new layer, use the Line Tool and create one line at a stroke of .5. Duplicate the line and group all of the lines together.

With one set of lines selected, choose Free Distort and follow along.


On another set of lines apply Transform Effect as shown below. You can readjust the lines after pressing OK.


On another set of lines apply Warp Options Arch with the settings below.

Duplicate the last lines and apply Arch with the settings below.

Play around with the placement of all of the lines. Add some stars and then select the lines and stars change the layer mode to Soft Light. Now we have a background that can be used in a variety of places.
