In this tutorial I'll show you the steps to create a blend that can be then exported as a SWF animation.
Here is the illustration I'll be using to make the animation.

First thing we want to do is alt+drag a copy of the illustration to make two of them.

With both objects selected, choose Blend>Make.

You'll then have 3 or 4 objects.

Go back to Blend and select Blend Options.

Choose Specified Steps and type in 20.

Now all should look the same as below.

With your trusty Pen Tool, create a line then select everything.

Go to Blend and choose Replace Spine.

If you have followed the steps correctly, everything should look similar to what is below.

Go to the Layers Palette, click on the Options arrow and choose Release to Layers (Sequence).

Each object will be on it's own layer.

Now select Save for Web & Devices.

Make sure to specify SWF.

Make sure to select Layers to SWF Frames.

Make the Frame Rate approximately 6. Also check Loop.

Click on Preview in Default Browser and you should see your animation.
