Select New and create a letter size document. Start by selecting the Rectangle Tool. Uncheck the Stroke color and bring to the forefront the fill color. Double-click on it and choose a color.
Create the rectangle filled with the color you selected.
Select the Pen Tool and draw the design you see below. On the straight edges, make sure to hold down the Shift key to keep it exactly aligned.
To create a gradient for this design, click on the inkwell, then choose a color from Color.
Use the Rectangle Tool to create a small square for a design. Make sure to hold down the Shift key for a perfect square.
Under Object select Drop Shadow.
Choose a dark color for the shadow. Click on Preview to see the results and then press OK.
I then duplicated the square three times using the Alt and Shift keys and dragging. When the four were created, I then had all of them selected and press the Alt and Shift keys and dragged right to form four more. I then changed the color.
Create a new layer. Lock the previous layer. To add text just select the Text Tool.
Go to Color and select the color for the text.
Drag out the area for the text. Type in the text and move it into place.
Do the same thing for the lower text. Increase the size of the font to announce what college it is.
Create a new layer. Select the Ellipse Tool and make a circle. Open the Transparency tab and set Opacity to 50%.
Create a second circle and do the same but change the color.
To place a photo or graphic, use the Place command and drag out the size you want. You can also change the Transparency to something like Lighten if it suits you.
We can continue or call this cover complete.
