In this tutorial I'll show you how to set up default swatches which will open each time you begin a new project.
Below is the swatches that automatically load when you start InDesign. We want to change it so we have more variety.

Before you start make sure nothing is opened.

With the Swatches palette in view, click on the arrow and select New Color Swatch.

Let's set up a rich black. Make the changes for cyan, magenta, and yellow then name it and select OK.

Drag the color up into the area of the other blacks.

Finally, open up the Color Mode selection under the same arrow and choose Pantone solid coated. Make your selections of color that you would like to be resident in the program each time you start. When you exit out of the program and re-enter, you should see all of the new colors ready for use.
