In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a Bake Set which permanently establishes different values that you have applied to the geometry such as lighting and textures. Baking cuts down on render time.
Here we have a box that was rendered in Mental Ray and has texture and lighting applied to it.

With the geometry selected, make sure Rendering is selected, then open Lighting/Shading and choose Assign New Bake Set. Click on Texture Bake Set.

You should now see the tab textureBakeSet1 where you make adjustments.

Now if you open Hypershade and click on Bake Sets, you should see the node for the baked texture.

To assign other items to the bake set, choose Assign Existing Bake Set>textureBakeSet1 (which is the name of our bake set).

For the cone you should now see a tab for textureBakeSet1.
