Start with a sketch.

Using the acrylic paints, paint in base colors. Let the piece completely dry.
For the tree trunk I used Prismacolor colored pencils sharpened to a point and applied in a crisscross motion Spanish Orange, French Grey, and Indigo Blue.
For the base under the tree I used Magenta, Yellow Orange, Light Green, Cream, Marine Green, Dark Purple, and Apple Green. For the mailbox and swings I used White, Dark Umber, Black, and Warm Grey. For the leaves I use Deep Yellow, Chartreuse, Spring Green, and Grass Green.
In the final step I used Orange, Non-Photo Blue, Canary Yellow, and White in the background. The white was used at the bottom and around the shape of the tree in the yellow area.
