With a drawing pencil I sketched out a picture that would act as my template. The actual drawing is not as dark but for the purposes of this lesson I darkened it so that you could see the detail.
I'll be using the Speedball Sketching Project Set which I purchased at Michael's. The ink I'll be using is Higgins Eternal Permanent Black Ink No. 44041 in a 2 1/2 oz. bottle.
With the size 56 round nib I drew the lines throughout the picture not putting in any detail.
I used the fine point nib and added in detail and then changed to a small paint brush and painted in the areas I wanted to be completely black by dipping the brush directly into the ink bottle.

Finally, I watered down the ink so that I could work with it in varying shades of transparency just like a I would do if I were working in regular watercolor. I used a fairly small paintbrush for this purpose. I then called the piece finished.
