On colored paper, I roughly sketch out the shape I will be filling in with the oil pastels.
Block in the dark colors for the window areas and also for the sky.
Continue on the background by lightly suggesting a cloud and landform. Use a lighter version of the color used on the windows to add more depth.
Building on the depth aspect, use two variations of color to add more highlight.
You can then blend the colors together somewhat.
I then added a dark blue and a lighter blue to the door.
I then added a darker color for the under part of the frames where they are built outward. Then I added two different colors to the side areas.
Again, I added even a lighter tone to the bottom of the window areas and the door.
Using two different colors, I added in bricks that show through the adobe walls.
I then added a lighter color on the wall near the left bricks because the wall turns a little. I then roughly filled in the main wall not wanting to cover up the back color entirely. I also added color on the lower walls and ground areas.
Next I added highlight color to the different places I wanted some variation.
I then blend some of the areas to make the adobe and surrounding pieces more interesting.
Finally, I added a some darker color for the little wall area near the door and blended that small wall. I also added a two tone ladder to finish the piece.
