Below is the Kwanzaa card sketch.

Starting with basic color, block the paint in as shown below.
At this point you will want to take the original colors and either darken them or lighten. Or if you're lucky enough to have all the paints in every color imaginable, you'll only need to add a small touch of a darker or lighter color.
Now for the shadow areas like under the bowl, you'll increase the darkness of the color using a little dark blue. Basically apply highlight colors around the painting as shown. The paint is fairly wet and spreads easily.
Finally even lighter highlight color was added to the foreground and salad and then the word Kwanzaa was painted in by hand and a darker green was painted underneath for effect.
