Here's the photo we'll be working from.

Start by blocking in the base sky color and then smear.

Block in the middle and foreground colors and smear or smudge.

In short strokes I fill in the back trees mixing color as I go.

For the foreground I add in short strokes of color as shown.

Next I add the form of the trees.

Next I added the form of the leaves in a lighter and brighter color.

Finally, I added color where I saw that it needed it building up from dark to light. Took a breather, looked at it, decided where some more color needed to be added, and called it done.
