Eyelashes - Corel Paint Shop Pro Tutorial

Vikki Olds

1 Creating eyelashes is extremely simple once you have an idea how to go about it.

Select the image you want to add eyelashes to or create one. The image I used, created in ZBrush, is below.

2 Use the Zoom tool to zoom in close to the eye area.

3 Use the Pencil tool, set to freehand and a size of one to create the eyelash lines on the eye liner. I do this on a separate layer just in case I want to start over. I don't want to run out of undo and have eyelashes left if I want to start over. Below is what the eyelash lines should look like.

4 Below is one eye finished with the above type of eyelash. I use that type for males. You will notice that they have a short flow. You'll see what I mean by short flow down further.

Notice how the line starts at the eyeliner and drops down into the eyeball area and then comes up to finish. For the lower lashes they come up into the eyeball area.

5 Below is one completed eye.

6 On the next eyeball I'm going to draw flowing or more female type eyelashes. Zoom into your eye area to get ready to draw the lashes.

7 Below are three images depicting the steps in more flowing lashes. These lines all follow the eye liner.

8 Below is what the lashes look like alone. As mentioned above, I create my lashes on a separate layer so that I don't have to worry about running out of undo operations.

9 Below is the finished eye with the flowing lashes. You will notice on this type of eyelash, the starting point is still the eye liner however, the lashes do not drop into the eyeball area. The lines follow the eye liner and are long and sweeping.

9 Below are both eyes. The left with the more masculine type of eyelash and the right with the more feminine.

Drawing lines like this does take some practice and I always, every time, have to use undo once or twice. One of the keys is to be zoomed in to your image so you have the space necessary to draw longer lines. This keeps the line from abruptly terminating creating short stubby lines.

The sweeping lashes work wonderfully for cartoons as shown below. Exaggeration is the key in the following image.
