Cloning - Corel Paint Shop Pro 7 Tutorial
| Vikki Olds | 1 | | There are times when we have two images that we think would be perfect if one had an attribute or part of another image in it. I had an image of the high desert in mid morning when it is very cold here and I also had another image of my dad. I decided I would like to place the image of my dad in the high desert image and cloning is the way I accomplished it. Below is an image of my dad. | | 2 | | Below is the image I wanted my dad to be in. | | 3 | | Place your images side by side. On the background image, in my case the high desert image, add a new layer. This is the layer we'll clone my dad onto so that later we can clean up and resize it to fit the background. Select the clone tool, represented below and click anywhere on the part of the image you want to clone. In my case I clicked on my dads head. Then place your cursor over the background image making sure you have the new layer selected and hold the left mouse button down and paint. Don't worry that you get some of what you don't want in the clone. We'll clean that up later. | | 4 | | When you have all the image you want cloned, select the eraser brush, represented in the screenshot below and erase all the pixels that you did not want to be in the new image. Don't worry that there are pixelated edges, we'll clean those up in a minute. | | 5 | | When you're finished with the eraser brush select the Smudge brush. Set the opacity to about 50 and the size to around 20. Very carefully lightly smudge the rough edges created by the eraser brush. | | 6 | | Below is the final image. This was a very simple example of cloning. Cloning is a very powerful tool. I could have moved trees and shrubs around and even removed the branches in the foreground at the top of the image by simply using the clone brush. There are other ways to accomplish the same task for instance, making a selection, copying and pasting to another layer in another image. That is a little harder than just cloning however. | Copyright 2001, Vikki Olds, All Rights Reserved |
