Cupid's Tutorial - Corel Paint Shop Pro Tutorial
| Donnamarie J. Walker | 1 | | Download the zip and unzip it into your PSP Selections Folder. If you don't have one, you can make one. Open a new image 270 x 400 Transparent. You can crop this later. Add a new layer. Click on Selections>Load from Disk. Choose cupidhead.sel.
Set your foreground color to Black, your background color to #FFC49D. Now the next few steps are the same ones we will be using over and over as we add each selection. Remember to take a moment and save! Save the image you are working on in PSP format so it will retain all layers. | | 2 | | Flood fill the Selection with black, go to Selections>Modify>Contract by 2 and flood fill with color #FFC49D. Deselect. Add a new layer, Selections>Load from Disk. Choose cupidbody.sel, flood fill with black, contract by 2 and flood fill with the flesh color. Deselect. | | 3 | | Continue to add a new layer for each selection, contracting and flood filling as you go. Do all of the body parts first, hands, feet, ears, nose, deselecting when finished. It's also helpful to name each layer. On the left hand, use your eraser and remove the black line at the bottom of the wrist so it blends in with the body. Save! | | 4 | | Now that you have the body parts done, add a new layer, choose cupidwing.sel, flood fill with black, contract by 2 and flood fill with white. You can also adjust your layers so that the wing is behind cupid's body, same for the feet. | | 5 | | Add another layer and choose cupidclothes.sel. Flood fill with black then contract and flood fill with Color #FF0C0C. This is a nice bright red which we will also use for the blush in a later step. Add a layer and using your Draw Tool, draw in two curves for the cheeks, one for the smile and one for the mouth. See below. Select the inside of the mouth, expand by one, then fill with the red color. Save! | | 6 | | Add a layer and using the Airbrush Tool with the settings shown below and with Color #FF0C0C, paint some blush on Cupid's fingertips, ears, and body. Now change the brush size to 25 and paint in some blush on his cheeks and nose. One click on each is just enough. | | 7 | | Now go to Image>Blur>Gaussian>5. While on this layer you can erase the little blur that goes outside of the fingertips. | | 8 | | One more layer and we are almost finished. Using your Paint Brush or Draw Tool, Color Black, Width 2, draw on some freckles, one click for each, lines for toes, fold on clothes, and lines on the wings, and action lines outside of the wings. "Action" lines give the appearance of movement. You can also add the dotted line beneath Cupid but it's optional. Save! | | 9 | | At this point, Cupid is done, so you can now Merge your layers Visible and export as a Tube, or, add a final layer beneath all previous layers and add your background color or fill. I added one more layer for the hearts. Then Merge All Layers>Flatten and crop your image. Don't forget to sign your work! | Copyright 2001, Donnamarie J. Walker, All Rights Reserved |
