The Roller Coaster - Corel Paint Shop Pro Tutorial

The Roller Coaster Preview

1. Open a new image 600 x 550 - Transparent. This will give us room to work. Flood fill this layer with White so you can better see your image as you work on it. Click on "Save As" and name your work Roller Coaster, save in PSP format. Download Selection Files here.

2. We are using selections to make this a little easier. Choose the Wood Pattern for your pattern, copy and paste as a new image, or you could use your own color or wood texture. Add a new layer, go to Selections - Load from Disk, choose the roller_coaster_tracks.sel and flood fill with wood pattern. Deselect. Control S to save.

3. Add a new layer, load the top_track.sel and contract by 2. Flood fill with black. Contract again by 1, delete, deselect.

4. Add a new layer. Load the roller_coaster_cars.sel and fill with black. Turn off Layer 1 and Merge Visible the Tracks, Top Track and Cars layers. Rename this layer Coaster. Control S to save.

5. Add a new layer and load the roller_coaster_sign.sel and fill with black. Contract by 1 and fill with #560D0B. Deselect. Let's add another layer for the text. I used trebuchet ms - Size 14 - Color:#F6D9BF but you can use any text and color you choose.

6. Add a new layer and load the roller_coaster_building_sel and fill with black. Contract by 1 fill with Color:#560D0B. Now load the roller_coaster_door.sel and fill with black. Apply a drop shadow. Color:White - Opacity: 75% - Blur:0 - Vertical:0 - Horizontal:1. Move this Building layer under the Sign layer. Turn off all layers except the Sign, Text, Building and Door layers and Merge these Visible. Rename the layer "Building". Control S to save your work.

7. Okay, let's make some flags to decorate our Roller Coaster. You can use any color or gradient for your flags. Using a Rectangle Preset, Stroke: Black, Fill:#560D0B add a new layer and make your first flag on the right side of the building. Start at the bottom corner of the building and pull up to 135 x 3.

8. Add another layer and using your Triangle Preset draw out a small Flag. You will probably have to rotate this 90% to the right or left, depending on how you drew out your Triangle. Use the graphic above to help you. Move your Flag until you are happy with the placement, turn off all other layers and Merge these two Visible. Copy and paste as a new Selection, Mirror. Move this Flag to the left. You can continue on and resize your next Flag by 75% to 50% and place them on other parts of your Roller Coaster. Rename this layer "Flags" and Control S to save.

9. We are pretty much finished with our coaster. If you'd like to decorate it by adding a sky, grasses and background, Shift D to duplicate and close the original making sure you have saved any changes or additions you've made. Turn off Layer 1, which should be your White background color layer, and Merge Visible all the other layers. You can now finish your image as you'd like or add it to the rest of your Prestigious Park!
