Creating with Sumi-e - Corel Painter 8 Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood September 15, 2003 | 1 | | You're probably wondering what you can do with the Sumi-e brush. Let's find out. | | 2 | | Start with a semi light gray background. Go ahead and select a medium blue. | | 3 | | Lay in a foreground area as shown below. | | 4 | | With white as the color selected, choose the Flat Sumi-e 30 brush and lay in the sky area. | | 5 | | Reduce opacity 24% and brush in the rest of the sky. | | 6 | | With a medium dark gray lay in the line as I have done. | | 7 | | Change colors and brushes, reduce opacity to 34% and lay in a water. Rotate the canvas if necessary. | | 8 | | Same color-different brush, create waves. | | 9 | | At a 26% opacity and a bright yellow selected, add a sun. | | 10 | | With a Flat Wet Sumi-e 20 brush set at 13% opacity and 100% white, roll the brush around the sun. | | 11 | | Select black and the Dry Ink brush and add a tree trunk. | | 12 | | Add some more branches with the Variable Thin Sumi-e 40 brush. | | 13 | | Lay in the leaves and reflective part of the tree. | | 14 | | Using the Coarse Bristle Sumi-e create a person in black. With the Bristle Sumi-e 12 paint in the shadow of the man, add rows which appear to look like a field. | | 15 | | After adding a title the piece is now complete. | Copyright 2003, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
