Making Faces - Corel Painter Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood October 15, 2003 | 1 | | Have you ever been told to stop making faces? Well I'm here to tell you to make faces. It's going to be fun. First thing you want to do is make sure Image Portfolio is open. | | 2 | | Next open up Image Mover and click on New. Name the new library Face Parts. | | 4 | | Move one of the library images over to the new library. | | 5 | | Open a face photo. Use the Rectangular Tool to select the area you wish to add to your library. Right-click and select Layer via Copy. Then select the Layer Adjuster tool and drag the face section over into the new library. When you have all your face parts created, go ahead and delete the image that was initially a part of the original library, and in this case it was the strawberry. | | 6 | | Below are the parts of faces that I have selected for the library. Make sure all face parts have names. You can make sure they have names by clicking on each one and viewing the name in the upper left corner. | | 7 | | Use the Layer Adjuster tool to pull the face pieces onto your artboard. I need to flip the one eye that I have used twice so I will access Orientation and choose Flip Horizontal. | | 8 | | So now I have two eyes on the artboard. | | 9 | | I then chose an animal mouth to use for this demonstration. | | 10 | | Next I selected a nose for the image. | | 11 | | At this point I decide to select the Canvas layer, select the Eyedropper and sample some color from the eye area for the head. I'm going to use Chalk>Tapered Large Chalk 20 to paint in the head area. | | 12 | | I then sample color from the mouth area for the jaw and ears. | | 13 | | From this point I want to select Select All and Drop All. | | 14 | | I want to use the Round Blender Brush 20 to work in the edges of the face parts. | | 15 | | I have blended in the face parts to the colored background and have also added some strokes to create a furry edge. | | 16 | | And finally I used the Photo FX to add some dark areas and light area. Applying a little tonal adjustment and we're done. You can really get into some DNA manipulation using this method to create new beings. The examples at the bottom are the same concept. | Copyright 2003, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
