Painting a Mountain Scene with Acrylics - Corel Painter Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood February 15, 2004 | 1 | | The first thing we need to do is open up the appropriate brush for this part of the painting. I am using Acrylics Dry Brush 20 set at 25% Opacity. I began by blocking in the base sky color. | | 2 | | Still using the same brush I chose a blue gray for the deeper color of the clouds. | | 3 | | I changed to a peachy gray and added in the middle tone for the clouds then lightened that color for a brighter variation on the clouds. | | 4 | | I then changed to a light sunflower yellow, reduced the size of my brush and added the lighter areas of the clouds. Then I changed to white and reduced the brush again and added tinier highlights. | | 5 | | Under Focus I chose Soften and applied a 3 pt Gaussian Blur. | | 6 | | For the farthest mountains I changed brushes and selected a middle bright blue. I then change the brush to Wet Soft Acrylic 10 to soften the base of the mountains. | | 7 | | I then changed the brush to Opaque Detail Brush 3, changed the color to a lighter blue and added more detail. I then changed to Dry Brush 30 and reduced the size of the brush and added a highlight of light yellow gray. | | 8 | | Using a much darker blue and changing to Thick Acrylic Flat 10, I put the base coat of the foreground mountains in and then changed to Wet Soft Acrylic 20 and enlarged the brush and softened the bottom part of the mountains. | | 9 | | Change to Thick Acrylic Bristle 10 and reduce the Opacity. Select a darker blue and add in shadow. | | 10 | | With the Dry Brush 30 and varying Opacity, use a light medium yellow white and add highlight. Increase and decrease the size of the brush as needed. | | 11 | | Change to the Distortion brush, Coarse Distorto and manipulate the white of the mountains and also the foreground to make it more realistic. | | 12 | | Use a dry brush and a medium light gray with the brush set at 13% Opacity and add in the faint mist. | | 13 | | Using the Thick Acrylic Bristle 30 set at 90% Opacity, block in the background pine trees. Change to Artists Seurat set at 17% Opacity with a medium gray and lighten up some of the areas of trees while giving the trees dimension. Next change to Distortion Grainy Mover 20 and manipulate the tops of the trees. | | 14 | | Using Thick Acrylic Flat 10 and an almost black color, block in the foreground pine trees. | | 15 | | Use Wet Detail Brush 5 and light medium gray and set in the highlight for the trees. Use the Distortion Diffuser to distort the brush strokes of the highlight. | | 16 | | Finally, for the foreground use the Photo Diffuser to soften the base area of the trees and then change the Add Grain brush to add some interesting detail shadow to the foreground ground. | Copyright 2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
