Pastel on Black Background Freehand Sketch - Corel Painter Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood March 1, 2004 | 1 | | Start with a black background. Select Round X-Soft Pastel 20 brush. Select a medium blue and start your freehand sketch. | | 2 | | The freehand sketch I did on screen is shown below. I have actually lightened the blue to show you the sketch but on my screen it's less bright so hopefully you can follow along. | | 3 | | For the face, begin with a burnt umber color. Use [ and ] to increase and decrease the size of the brush. Follow the settings below for the this stage of the drawing. | | 4 | | Here is the beginning laying on of color in the face. | | 5 | | For the eye I first used a darker blue and laid in the base color. I then selected a lighter blue for the outer area. | | 6 | | I continued by laying in a base color in the lips and then used a rosy color for the cheeks, around the nose and ear. Changing to a middle sunflower color, I placed in some lighter areas. | | 7 | | In this step I added even more highlights to the face. | | 8 | | Here I add base colors to the hat, hair, jacket, and shirt. | | 9 | | I've added shadow and highlights to the jacket and shirt. Also added more highlight and shadows to the hat and hair plus the shirt. | | 10 | | I used black to add detail in the face, hair, and clothing with the same brush as used above. I then changed to pure white and added white highlights in specific areas to make the picture pop. The background was added using the same technique. | Copyright 1998-2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
