Creating a Simple Designed Effectual Header - Corel Painter/Photoshop Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood June 15, 2004 | 1 | | Create a header with a size of 700 x 129 pixels. Let's start by choosing a texture. I have selected Corrugated Paper. | | 2 | | Next we'll use Oil Pastels and Variable Oil Pastel. Also select the color medium blue. Set the brush size to 161, and Grain to 15%. | | 3 | | Drag the brush horizontally from left to right. | | 4 | | Change to Oils and Glazing Round 30 brush. Set Opacity to 8% and change to the color white. Begin to create a cloud or mist in the left side of the canvas. You may need to go over it more than once and even reduce the size of the brush. | | 5 | | Now select the Text tool and type in Register. Make sure the Text dialogue box is open so you can manipulate the text. You'll have to keep the text fairly small. I'm using 5.5. | | 6 | | To move the text into position, use the Shape Selection tool. Be sure to point it on top of the crossbar or else it will not work. | | 7 | | Right click on the layer and choose Duplicate. | | 8 | | Select the Text tool and then change the color of the text located in the top menu bar. | | 9 | | To create a new title click on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette. | | 10 | | Make sure you keep your two colors as chips so that they are easily accessible. | | 11 | | Continue now creating the rest of the titles. To make sure the title are in even alignment, click Control+R and pull from the left ruler. | | 12 | | To select both layers of the same text, hold down the Shift key to select more than one. Use the Layer Adjuster tool to move them into place. Once you have finished press Control+; to hide the guides. | | 13 | | Once you have finished with the text and have basically added everything you need, do a Save As and change the Save as type to Photoshop Files. | | 14 | | Open Photoshop and then open the header file. You should see the layers as they were created. From this point you can create individual layer names like offschools and onschools, etc. | | 15 | | Now select the onregister layer and then on the Create a New Set button. Drag the offregister and onregiser buttons into it. Rename it. Do this for each button set. | | 16 | | Select the Slice tool and create a border for each button set. Hide the on stage button for each button set. | | 17 | | Select the Slice Select tool and then double click on the box. Type in the name of the current visible button. Also type in the URL, where the button will appear as in the header, and when you hover of the button what message text would you like to appear. | | 18 | | From this point on once you have completed all of the off stage button, do a Save to Web and save in the Optimized tab. Then hide the off stage buttons and unhide on the on stage buttons, follow step 17 and then do a Save As again. From this point on you can choose to open the menu in Image Ready or paste all of the HTML and Javascript information into your site. | Copyright 1998-2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
