The Ugly Bird Illustration - Corel Painter Tutorial
| Jacquelin Vanderwood June 15, 2004 | 1 | | Below is the ugly bird drawing I'll work on for you. I drew it with that old standby, the pencil, and then scanned it into the computer. Pretty ugly isn't it? Took me all of 1 minute and a half. | | 2 | | I'll use Water Color and Runny Airbrush. | | 3 | | Here are the current settings for the brush. If they change I'll let you know. | | 4 | | I've chose use a dark rose madder color to start with. | | 5 | | I've added the color as shown below. To increase and decrease the size of the brush, just use the [ and ] brackets. | | 6 | | I selected a dark orange in this step and decreased opacity to 18%. I have applied the watercolor in the fashion shown below. | | 7 | | Using a dark red set at 76% opacity, I continued painting in more detail and shading. | | 8 | | I then added more of the color tan and then changed to black and added in the eyes. | | 9 | | Changing opacity to 100% and using a strong yellow I continued to add color. | | 10 | | Use a dark tan and fill in the eyes. Then I set Spread to 49%, Flow to 30, and Feature to .7 and chose a dark brown and added in shading and detail. | | 11 | | I changed brushes to a Grainy Wash Bristle and changed Opacity to 33%. I then selected a nice medium green and painted in the detail as shown below. | | 12 | | I used black and added to the eyes and made some shading in other place like the feet. I then changed to turquoise and continued to add character to different areas and even added it into the red areas which turned some it blue. | | 13 | | I changed the brush to Eraser Dry and added highlights in the eyes and cleaned up the top of the beak. I also erased on the wings to create a design from negative space. I then changed to brown and changed the brush to Bleach Runny and applied it to the eye area as well as below the beak and also below the chest feathers and the branch. | | 14 | | Finally I changed to white and to Diffuse Camel brush and used it to add interesting texture around the bird. Isn't this a really ugly bird? | Copyright 1998-2004, Jacquelin Vanderwood, All Rights Reserved | |
