This lesson covers painting an ant in watercolor.
To start, I used the Smooth Ink Pen to sketch in the shape of the ant.

On a new layer we'll use the Watercolor Fine Camel with the opacity set to 12%. In watercolor, always work from light to dark.

Block in the color orange for the body base.

Keeping with the same color, color in the shaded areas much like you would if you were using a crayon.

Using the same color, change the brush to Dry Camel and paint in dark shadows..

Change to a darker color of orange and make darker shadows then change to Eraser Dry and rub out some highlights for the body.

Finally, with Dry Camel and brown, paint in the beak and then use Dry Erase to make highlights. Change back to Dry Camel and black paint in the eye.
