In this tutorial we'll cover how to create a sketch from a photograph and then use watercolor to add color back into the picture. Tutorial Includes project files.
Here's an old photo I'll be using.

I've adjusted the setting for all sliders so that there is definition without a lot of grain.

Here's what we have to work with. We can still see the outline and definition of the girl.

So that we don't ruin the original, let's make a new layer.

I'll be using Digital Watercolor which doesn't need a watercolor layer. The brush will be Broad Water Brush.

I began by one coat of watercolor over the skin always starting in the same direction otherwise the results are different. I used one coat over everything. Then chose to add a second coat of color over the cheeks and the chest area slightly.

Without changing any of the settings, I selected the background sketch layer and selected a skin color, then painted in the areas that I wanted to be darker and called the watercolor sketch done.
