In this tutorial we'll make a building using shapes.
Select the Rectangular Shape tool and create a rectangle.

Now we need to duplicate the rectangle using Shapes>Duplicate or the shortcut Ctrl+].

Let's then change the color of the fill.

Now choose the Shape Selection tool. Deselect the yellow rectangle then select one corner and use the up or down arrow key to move into place.

Now select both points on the right and use the left arrow to reduce the width of the piece.

Duplicate that light yellow shape, change the color, use the Layer Adjuster tool to reduce the shape then move it into place. Use the Shape Selection tool to select points and use the arrow buttons to move them up or down into place.

Duplicate the darker yellow piece and use the Layer Adjuster to reduce it in size. Change it's color and use the Shape Selection tool to readjust points.

You can follow the same steps we used before to create the door and windows.C

We can now use Apply Surface Texture, and while the window is open, click on different paper textures until we have the one we like.

You can then use the Burn tool to add shadowing and to give depth.

You can then use the Lighting feature to add even more distinction to the piece.

And in the final step, type in some text for the sign. Under the arrow in the Layers palette, choose Convert Text to Shapes, then you can go into Effects>Objects and apply a drop shadow.

Here is the finished piece. Of course, you can add more detail as you like but I wanted you to see how easy it is to create a building with shapes.
